DEADLINE – Director Aoife McArdle (Severance) is lining up Foxfinder, a psychological thriller set to star BAFTA and Emmy award-nominee Tessa Thompson (Creed), Golden Globe and Emmy winner Owen Cooper (Adolescence) and two-time Emmy winner Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear).

NY Times: This True Story Brought Adrien Brody and Tessa Thompson to Broadway

Tessa is featured alongside co-star Adrien Brody and playwright of Fear of 13, Lindsey Ferrentino in the New York Times. I’ve added the two beautiful black and white portraits to the gallery, and you can read the interview below.

NEW YORK TIMES – In the autumn of 2024, the playwright Lindsey Ferrentino took a former convict named Nick Yarris to a preview performance of her new work, “The Fear of 13,” in London. The play, by turns harrowing, tragic and mordantly funny, dramatizes the 21 years that Yarris, portrayed onstage by Adrien Brody, spent on death row in Pennsylvania for a murder he did not commit.

Seeing his grueling prison ordeal unfolding before him in the theater, Yarris, now 64, was “audibly reacting louder than anyone else,” Ferrentino recalled, causing a neighboring audience member to ask him to keep it down. But a video that was shown after the curtain fell revealed that this was Yarris, the play’s subject, and “everyone nearby just sort of reached out and put their hands on him,” Ferrentino said. “No one had words — what do you say? — but they were all silently trying to hug him or put their hands on his back.”

“It was the greatest moment I’ve ever had in the theater,” she said.

The play, which had an eight-week, sold-out run at the Donmar Warehouse in London, received two Olivier Award nominations, for best new play and best actor for Brody. Now “The Fear of 13” has opened on Broadway, for a limited run at the James Earl Jones Theater. For its New York iteration, the play has changed considerably, with tweaks to the script; a larger cast of actors playing prison guards, inmates and other characters; a new director (David Cromer); and a new actress (Tessa Thompson) in the role of Jacki, a death-row volunteer who falls in love with Yarris.

‘Hedda’ Gallery Updates

I’ve updated the gallery with screen captures, stills, posters and artwork from Tessa’s role as Hedda Gabler in Hedda. The movie is beautifully shot, and Tessa is so magnetic and commanding as the titular character. It’s a shame her performance didn’t receive more accolades, but I feel it shows how capable she is of being the lead, and will hopefully open up many more opportunites for her to do this more often.

If you’re still yet to watch, Hedda is available to stream on Amazon Prime.

A provocative reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play, Hedda follows enigmatic newlywed Hedda (Tessa Thompson), who is outwardly composed but hiding a simmering discontent that threatens to explode when the brilliant and charismatic Eileen Lovberg (Nina Hoss) reenters her life. Over the course of a raucous party, the high and low of society endure the consequences of this dangerous and unknowable woman yearning for a past love. What ensues is a ruthless game of manipulation, where lust, jealousy, and betrayal collide. Written and directed by Nia DaCosta, Hedda is a daring exploration of power, desire, and a woman’s refusal to be confined.

Tessa Thompson Joins ‘A Separation’

Another lead role for Tessa – I’m excited to see how this one develops!

DEADLINE – Tessa Thompson (Hedda) has attached to produce and star in A Separation, a feature adaptation of Katie Kitamura‘s bestseller to be written and directed by Cannes award winner Jonas Carpignano (A Chiara, Mediterranea).

Published by Riverhead Books in 2017, A Separation is the story of a woman who reluctantly travels from London to an isolated peninsula in southern Greece to find her estranged husband who has gone missing. Full of suspense and quiet turmoil, the book is about the mysteries of intimacy and slippery grief that comes in the wake of a marriage that ends.

In addition to Thompson, Riva Marker will produce for Linden Productions, along with Kishori Rajan of Viva Maude, and Greta Caruso, and Christos V. Konstantakopoulos of Faliro House. Anonymous Content’s David Levine will exec produce.

The project reunites Thompson with Linden following their work on Is God Is, Aleshea Harris’ thriller adapting her award-winning stage play, which releases May 15 via Orion Pictures. Linden also reunites with Faliro House after their collaboration on David Adjmi’s Stereophonic, the most-nominated play in the history of the Tonys, which took home five awards including Best Play in 2024.

In a joint statement, the producers told Deadline: “In A Separation, Kitamura unflinchingly explores the complexities of class, race and fidelity with her trademark elegance and fearlessness. We could not be more thrilled to collaborate on such an evocative story.”

Kitamura said, for her part: “Jonas and Tessa are two of the boldest and most original artists working today. I feel very lucky to be part of this extraordinary collaboration, and to be working with such an exceptional team of producers to bring this novel onto the big screen.”

Thompson is coming off a starring role opposite Jon Bernthal in His & Hers, Netflix’s murder mystery based on the Alice Feeney novel, which her Viva Maude produced. Under a first-look film deal with Amazon MGM, the company also recently teamed with Plan B to produce Hedda, Nia DaCosta’s reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s famed 1891 stage play Hedda Gabler for Orion Pictures. Led by Thompson, the film premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Drama. Among Viva Maude’s other upcoming projects is an adaptation of Raven Leilani’s debut novel, Luster.

Cultured Magazine: Tessa Thompson Took Two Years Out of the Spotlight. This Winter, She’s Back With a Vengeance

More new content! Tessa is once again a featured cover star – this time for Cultured’s ‘The Entertainers’ issue. Aside from the striking photoshoot, she also discusses her love of New York, Hedda, His & Hers, and her work with Viva Maude.

CULTURED – “Tessa Thompson is everywhere,” Janicza Bravo says when the pair sit down for a rare Zoom call in January. Their friendship typically takes place in person; Thompson can be spotted waiting for Bravo—who is known for running late—at restaurants around Los Angeles, where they both live.

The director’s not wrong. Though Thompson has been in Hollywood for over two decades, this is shaping up to be her busiest season yet. She made her rounds on the award circuit for Hedda, Nia DaCosta’s reinvention of Henrik Ibsen’s 19th-century play about an aristocratic woman defying every norm imposed on her. (Her role as the titular Hedda Gabler has won her a Critic’s Choice award and a Golden Globe nom.) His & Hers, the mystery thriller limited series she leads with Jon Bernthal, hit 19.9 million views on Netflix within days of dropping in January. She’s brought her new production company, Viva Maude, roaring to life with both of those projects.

Next, she’ll be making her Broadway debut opposite Adrien Brody in The Fear of 13. The production, which begins previews this March, tells the story of a man who spent more than two decades on death row before being exonerated with new DNA evidence. “I’m really in these streets and for the streets,” Thompson tells Bravo, when reminded of the deluge of projects set before her in 2026.
